1950s
Lytton Square and the Keystone Building
c. 1958.
As America moved into the 1950s, the turmoil of the previous decade was put into the past. New challenges arose that included McCarthyism and the Cold War. An significant emerging awareness of Civil Rights was born in the 1950's.
Still, except for the Korean Conflict at the beginning of the decade, the United States experienced a new period of peace and prosperity. Full sovereignty was returned to the opponents in the Second World War and the United States made substantial efforts to return the world to a normal path. The 1950s was the beginning of the age of Rock and Roll. Mill Valley continued to grow and prosper as its population expanded to 7,500.
