Live Scan is an automated digital fingerprinting service offered through the California Department of Justice. A person's fingers are digitally scanned and electronically transmitted to agencies such as the California Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation for background records checks. Live Scan fingerprints are used for licensing/permits/certifications and applicant pre-employment purposes.
The Mill Valley Police Department collects a $20 rolling fee for Live Scan service; however, DOJ and FBI have additional fees which will increase the price of the Live Scan. Price is determined by the level of service for the background check. Appointments can be made Monday - Thursday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
