Mill Valley Historical Society First Wednesdays
Wednesday, February 6, 2013 - 7:30 pm (Free)
Creekside Room, Mill Valley Public Library
375 Throckmorton Avenue, Mill Valley
On Wednesday, February 6th, join guest speaker Bob Flasher as he looks back on the colorful time of Mill Valley and Muir Woods ...the 60s and 70s and the life of those wild flower children of our hippie culture.
The title of Bob's talk is "Beat Poets, Drugs, and Zen at Druid Heights." What is Druid Heights? Where is Druid Heights? Come and discover the answer to these questions and more. Bob will explore the dynamic countercultural period in our county's history by appreciating the creativity arising from Druid Heights, an isolated "unintentional community"--the home of redwood hot tubs, Zen Buddhism in the west, inspiration for beat poetry, incredibly wild behavior, and anti-discrimination lawsuits.
Bob Flasher is the former Community Programs Manager at Redwood Creek Restoration for the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy.
The talk begins at 7:30 sharp in the Creekside Room of the Mill Valley Public Library.
