Computer Classes

Upcoming Computer Classes at the Library

InDesign II | Tuesday, July 22nd, 7:00pm 
This class will build upon the fundamentals taught in the InDesign Level I class, with a focus on working with more complex documents. We’ll create a multi-page document, and take a more in-depth look at paragraph, character and object styles. We’ll cover more advanced typographic issues including text flow, text wraps, drop caps and layout issues. Finally, we’ll look at ways to export final documents as PDF for print and viewing onscreen. This class is geared towards students who already have a basic knowledge of InDesign and the Mac OS (or who have already taken InDesign Level I).

Experience required:
Basic InDesign skills or having attended our InDesign I class.

Illustrator I | Tuesday, July 29th, 7:00pm 
In this class, we will explore the basics of Adobe Illustrator CS6. We’ll take a tour of the Illustrator user interface, and
look at some of the key drawing tools. We’ll practice drawing with the pen tool, and creating vector graphics with shape tools and the pathfinder. We’ll take a brief look at text in Illustrator, as well as the Live Paint and Image Trace features. The class will also include a discussion of differences between Photoshop and Illustrator, and differences between vector and raster (bitmap) images. This class is geared towards students who have experience working on the Mac OS and are comfortable with computers, however no background in Illustrator is required. 

Experience required:
Basic computer skills, using a keyboard and mouse, and preferably have experience with Mac OS.

Photoshop I | Tuesday, August 5th, 7:00pm 
In this beginner-level class we will cover the essentials of Photoshop CS6. Topics will include becoming familiar with the Photoshop user interface, using the tools panel, making selections, basic layering, cropping and straightening images, and making basic image adjustments. We will also briefly discuss file formats, and which are best for web and print uses. This class is geared towards students who have experience working on the Mac OS and are comfortable with computers, however no background in Photoshop is required. We will move at a relatively fast pace in order to cover as much material as possible.

Experience required:
Basic computer skills, knowledge of Mac OS, using a keyboard and mouse.

Photoshop II | Tuesday, August 12th, 7:00pm 
In this intermediate class we will take Photoshop to the next level! We’ll get more comfortable working with layers, using adjustment layers and making more complex selections with a variety of tools. We’ll learn some of the new content-aware features in Photoshop used for retouching, and for making more dramatic changes to digital photographs. This class is geared towards students who already have a basic knowledge of Photoshop and the Mac OS (or who have already taken Photoshop Level I). Please note that this class is not an introduction to Photoshop.

Basic Photoshop skills or having attended our Photoshop I class

Photoshop III | Tuesday, August 19th, 7:00pm 
Photoshop Level III is an intermediate Photoshop class designed for students with previous experience using Photoshop, and/or who have taken Photoshop Levels I and II. We will move at a rapid pace, and will cover topics of interest to more advanced Photoshop users including: making image adjustments to RAW files with the Photoshop Camera Raw plugin; workflow with Adobe Bridge; the use of Smart Objects and Smart Filters, as well as advanced selection techniques. Come ready to dive in and learn some of the more powerful features of Photoshop CS6! Please note that this class is not an introduction to Photoshop.

Experience required:
Intermediate Photoshop skills or having attended our Photoshop II class.
