National Night Out - August 5, 2014
A good night to get to know your neighbors
8/5/2014 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
The Mill Valley Police Department invites you to participate in NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2014.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm Mill Valley will be participating in National Night Out. Always the first Tuesday in August, this national campaign is designed to raise crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood unity and spirit, and develop partnerships between the police department and the community. Neighbors are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend an evening outside getting to know their neighbors and local police.
National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen our communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and their local law enforcement partners. The goal is to heighten crime-prevention and safety awareness and to build support and participation in those programs. Participation sends a message that our neighborhoods are organized and informed.
Neighborhood events can be casual and informal such as potlucks, BBQs and ice cream socials or more elaborate such as a street party. This is a night to send a powerful message about neighborhood unity, awareness, safety and police-community partnerships.
This event has been an opportunity for Neighborhood Watch groups to get together, and for those who do not have one in their area to start new Neighborhood Watch groups. To learn more about Neighborhood Watch and National Night Out 2014, please access the website: www.nationalnightout.org.
National Night Out has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Corporate sponsors include Target, Associa and Nextdoor. Nextdoor is a "virtual neighborhood watch" program that is free and private; safely connects neighbors; stops crime before it happens; and organizes and mobilizes neighbors. For more information, please go to www.nextdoor.com.
The Mill Valley Police Department is supporting the original spirit of National Night Out by inviting residents to turn on their porch lights and get out to meet their neighbors in informal block gatherings and activities. When residents on a block know each other, the neighborhood and the community is safer and stronger.
There is still plenty of time for interested blocks to register in this community-wide focus on crime prevention and safety. The event is open to all residents and blocks in the city limits of Mill Valley. To register your block/event you may:
1) Register by phone - Call CSO Sheryl Patton at 415.389.4100 x4118
2) Mail, fax or scan the registration form
Deadline for registration is Wednesday, July 30, 2014.
Please help us make your neighborhood safer and take a stand against crime. Please report all criminal behavior, join a neighborhood watch program, and help anyone that might fall victim to a crime. If a Neighborhood Watch doesn’t exist on your block, you can start one with help from the Mill Valley Police Department.
The Mill Valley Police Department looks forward to your participation in National Night Out!
