Every 3rd Saturday of the month visit the Friends Book Store located at the side entrance/lower level of the Library for thousands of quality used books for sale.

We can tell summer has arrived here in the Friends Bookstore. Local families are moving, downsizing, or just belatedly doing some spring cleaning, and that means that book contributions are way, way up. For you, that's a good thing, because there is lots of fresh stock for sale. The shelves are constantly restocked by our volunteers so there will be plenty to browse (and buy!) whenever you arrive. All of our sections are well stocked, but here's a sampler from three of our collections:
Cookbooks
It's always a special treat to leaf through a cookbook and gather new ideas to add to your dinner or entertaining repertoire. We offer classics like Julia, Jacques, the Silver Palate and the Joy of Cooking; an international collection including French, Italian, Asian and even Caribbean and Scottish; especially appropriate-for-summer books on grilling and picnics; books by cutting-edge chefs, and a splendid selection for vegetarians and those on special diets. All for a great bargain price of three dollars or less.
Sports
July is the month of the Tour de France, and we have a copy of Tour de France for Dummies! Also in Cycling:
Complete Book of Road Cycling Skills

Mountain Bike Like a Champion
Cycling Past 50

Here's a one-time chance to fill the gaps in your surfing library, or to start one. We have 43 volumes of The Surfer's Journal. They run from Volume Eight, Number Two, Summer 1999 to Volume Nineteen, Number Four, Aug-Sept 2010. The set is incomplete; missing 1-2 volumes each year.
Classic Paperbacks
Does your child have a recommended reading list for the summer, or before they enter high school or college? Remember that library sales are a great way to stock up on timeless classics in paperback -- at a price that can't be beaten. And maybe (just maybe) Dickens, Salinger, Austen, or Tolstoy will even lure them away from Call of Duty!
More Bargains Await -- Every Day!

There is no need to wait for the third Saturday of each month to find a book or two for yourself or a friend. The Friends have a new book cart in the main level of the library - near the reference desk and across from the circulation desk. It features specially selected book of premium quality, including best sellers and unique gift suggestions. You now have two locations in the library to find a quality book at an exceptional value - this book cart and the shelves on the lower level at the entrance to the fiction room.

The Friends of the Mill Valley Public Library have held books sales for nearly two decades. Sale proceeds are donated to the Library to enhance the collection, to cover the cost of Library programs and equipment such as hands-on computer classes, and other special needs.

In order to make their sales profitable, the Friends rely on generous donations from the community. They welcome donations of most categories of books in good condition (please, none that are dirty, mildewed, dog-eared, or underlined). Other items that sell well are video tapes, books on tape, CDs, and DVDs.

The Friends do not accept encyclopedias, textbooks, business or computer books more than five years old. No magazines or record albums; Please recycle such items.

You may bring your donations into the Library during open hours, or directly to the Friends book sale area (lower level side entrance) on Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 am to noon.

You may also drop off small donations at the Friends green collection bin inside California Savings at 70 Throckmorton Avenue, Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Fridays until 6:00 pm. If you are unable to bring books to one of these locations, please call Jim Derich 415-388-8310 to arrange a pick up.

All donations are tax deductible and the Friends will be happy to provide you with a receipt and a big "thank you!"
