The Graduate (1967)
The Graduate has become one of the all-time classic films. It catapulted Dustin Hoffman, then relatively unknown, into stardom, followed Anne Bancroft her entire career, and gave Simon and Garfunkel a major boost and a number one hit ("Mrs. Robinson"). Hoffman (at age 30) plays Benjamin, a 21-year-old recent college graduate up in the air about his future. Unexpectedly seduced by Mrs. Robinson (Bancroft), the wife of his father’s business partner, Ben succumbs but wrestles with the deceit. Life becomes more complicated when he begins to fall in love with the Robinsons' daughter, Elaine (Katharine Ross). Hoffman, Bancroft and Ross were all nominated for Oscars. The Graduate was nominated for Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture. Mike Nichols won the Oscar for Best Director.
Doors open at 7:00. This series is sponsored by The Friends of the Mill Valley Library. For more Programs and Events at the Library, see the Library Events Calendar.
