ARTS PROGRAM COORDINATOR

The City of Mill Valley is seeking an innovative, energetic and experienced program coordinator to design and develop new music programming with emphasis on early childhood music education for children under 5 years of age. We desire a creative and collaborative individual to fill the position of Arts Program Coordinator. Ideal candidate must have high standards for quality, an established commitment to public service, and a strong background and successful track record in the creation of engaging music and arts-related programming. Mill Valley has outstanding recreational facilities and highly regarded programs. We desire a “team player” with excellent communication skills, someone who works well with diverse groups of people and thrives in a fast paced environment. We are a close-knit, capable team of recreation professionals and seek an experienced arts programmer to build on our successes and expand our music and arts program offerings, special events and activities.
Under direction of the Recreation Director and Recreation Supervisor, the Arts Program Coordinator develops, implements and supervises a variety of new music programs; creates music program curriculum and lesson plans, recruits and trains music educators on our “Mill Valley Music Program” curriculum, supervises program implementation and evaluates ongoing music programming quality and effectiveness; and facilitates outreach efforts to publicize the new music programs to current patrons, local press and appropriate music venues to encourage strong enrollment in the fledging arts programs.
The new music program, “Rockin’ Tots” will focus on providing comprehensive early childhood music education for toddlers lead by talented instructors with live instruments and music. Classes will grow with each child with level of activity and music appropriate to each age group. Proposed classes include: Baby Rockers for ages 4 months - 1 year, Bouncing Rockers for 1 to 3 years, Mixed Rockers for 6 months to 5 years, and Boogie Rockers for 3 – 5 years. The new music program would also offer private music lesson and instruction for youth and adults at the Community Center.
Essential qualifications include the ability to provide general supervision, plan, coordinate and implement the presentation and/or promotion of arts-related recreation activities in specific program areas; conduct and prepare classes, exhibits, special events and activities; supervise and coordinate the activities of part-time staff, contractors and volunteers. This position works as primary program liaison to the Mill Valley Art Commission, assisting in commission special events and arts programs. As staff liaison to a commission, this position requires strong interpersonal skills to work with seven City Council-appointed commissioners, a range of full and part-time City staff, as well as members of the community.
This position is an "At Will" salaried position with benefits. The salaray range is $3332 to $4463 per month and will be filled at 25 hours per week (63% FTE).
