The City of Mill Valley would like to advise commuters of two traffic-related issues that may impact Mill Valley residents.
BART Strike: The effect of the strike may result in increased traffic congestion throughout much of the Bay Area as transportation services are disrupted. In Mill Valley, we anticipate that East Bay residents may use HWY 101 to avoid traffic congestion on the Bay Bridge. This may impact commuters coming into and out of town and could impact surface streets near HWY 101.
New Signal at Tennessee Valley and Shoreline Highway: We have received reports that the new signal at this intersection is causing considerable back-ups and delays for motorists heading south, out of Mill Valley to HWY 101. While this signal is out of the City's limits, City staff have been in communication with staff of the County of Marin and Caltrans. They are aware of the problem and Caltrans technicians are working on synchronizing the light timing with the traffic demands.
Plan Ahead and Consider Transportation Alternatives: The City advises that commuters plan ahead and add extra time to their travel plans. Carpool matches can be found by visiting the 511 Rideshare page on www.511.org. Transportation alternatives that may be effective include telecommuting, changing work schedules, and alternative modes of transportation, such as biking.
