Thanks to The Friends of the Mill Valley Library
, whose generous donation has allowed us to create a state of the art wireless laptop computer lab, we offer free hands-on computer training
for up to ten people per class in the beautiful Creekside Room.
Advance signup is required. Classes are very popular so if you have to cancel, please give us at least 24 hours notice so we can give your spot to someone on our waiting list. To help all patrons get the most out of our computer lab, please make sure you meet the minimum qualifications for each class and observe the one person per computer rule. For additional information please read the FAQ
or visit the Programs and Events page for current classes
. One-to-One Computer Help
- we offer one-on-one computer instruction to individuals who need extra help. Instructors meet with students at the public workstations for a 45-minute to one hour session. Instruction consists of the most basic skills: using the mouse, the computer keyboard, becoming familiar with the Internet, and beginning word processing skills. Emphasis is placed on preparing the student for our Beginning Internet class. We encourage those seeking more advanced instruction to sign up for one of the above group classes. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 415-389-4292 x108. All appointments require 24 hour cancellation notice. Computer Lab FAQ How much does a class cost?
All library computer classes are free and funded by the Friends of the Mill Valley Library. How do I register for a computer class?
Visit the Reference Desk or call 415-389-4292 x203. How far in advance can I register for a class?
You can register for a class as soon as a class is scheduled and has a date set. If a class is "TBA" you can add your name to the "future class" list What do I do if the class I want to take is full?
The Library will maintain a waiting list of people for classes and call you if there are any cancellations. We do occasionally have no shows for classes, so we invite those on the wait list to show up on the night of the class to see if a space becomes available. Stations are held for 10 minutes and then made available to people on the wait list. If you do not get a seat you’re welcome to observe at the discretion of the Library. If you do not get a seat or are unable to attend the class, we will add your name to the "future class" list and call you when we set a date for the next class. Do I need to have any computer experience to register for a computer class?
All class descriptions identify the necessary minimum qualifications. Beginning classes only require that you have basic keyboard and mouse skills. If you have no computer experience, a Reference Librarian can explain what other options are available. What if I need help while in the class?
All classes will have a lab assistant who can help you. Can I share a computer with another student?
