Please see below for specific information or questions that may require specialized assistance.
The Building & Planning counter is open every regular business day City Hall is open from 8:00-12:00 pm and 1:00-5:00 pm, except on Wednesdays. On Wednesday mornings the department is closed for staff meetings and general administrative tasks. These counter times are intended for dropping off and submitting applications to the planning department, speaking with planning staff, checking on the status of a project, and obtaining general information about the building and planning process. Minor re-roofing, plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits (such as water heater and furnace permits) are also issued during counter hours, however more detailed information may be requested requiring further review by the Building Official.
Building Official & Inspector Counter Hours
The Building Official and a Building Inspector are available to the public during counter hours scheduled daily (except Wednesday morning) from 8:00-9:00 am and 4:00-5:00 pm. Counter hours for Building Inspector, Tony Martinez, are daily (except Wednesday morning) from 8:00-8:30 am and 4:30-5:00 pm.
Building Over the Counter Plan Checks
We currently offer an over-the-counter (expedited) plan check service on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00am-11:30am. The service is geared towards small, residential-only projects that we estimate can be plan checked in approximately 10-15 minutes.
The service is on a first come, first served basis with a sign-up sheet available when the department opens at 8:00 am. Although the service runs until 12:00 pm, sign-ups are only accepted until 11:30 am.
Due to the often large turnout for this service, it is recommended that you bring the plans in during our regular counter hours and/or discuss the scope of the project with the appropriate staff.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon that the scope is too large or complicated for service and we are not able to plan check it, after the applicant has waited in line. Save yourself this aggravation and have us check it out beforehand.
