Mill Valley Historical Society

The Mill Valley Historical Society is a non-profit organization formed in 1977 with the primary purpose of educating the community about local history.

The Society organizes and sponsors a series of First Wednesday Presentations on topics of historical interest.

The Society also publishes the Mill Valley Historical Review, an annual 16-page magazine featuring articles and photographs on subjects related to Mill Valley history, which is available in the Library's Lucretia Little History Room.

On the Sunday of every Memorial Day weekend, the Society stages a Walk into History, commemorating the anniversary of the 1890 land auction that initiated the development of Mill Valley. Each year a different part of Mill Valley is highlighted on a short walking tour led by trained guides.

The Oral History Committee preserves memories of Mill Valley's past through the Oral History Project, which consists of taped interviews of long-time Mill Valley residents, transcribed and edited. The tapes are available for listening in the History Room, and the transcripts are available for checkout.
