Introduction to Growing Your Business Online
Wednesday, October 16th, 7:00pm
In this class we will cover an overview of ways to grow your business online and drive traffic to your website. We will discuss your website as the hub of your business, and important elements to have on your site including a blog and an opt-in form, to help grow your list of interested customers. We will go over Wordpress and why it is a great platform for you site. We will discuss Search Engine Optimization, and why it is so important. From there we will look at other ways to drive traffic to your site, and create a vibrant community of fans. We will look at Facebook for your business, including the effectiveness of running Facebook Ads. How Pinterest, YouTube and Twitter can drive traffic to your site. We will discuss the overall strategy and mindset of using Social Media to help you grow your business.

Although it is not a hands-on class, we will be looking at the websites and social media platforms to give a good idea of how effectively these sites can be used to grow your business.

Wednesday, October 23rd, 7:00pm
In this class we will cover the importance of blogging to grow your business – how often and what to blog about. We will review the Google Keyword Tool, and discuss how that can help you rank on Google. We will review different platforms for creating a list of your interested customers, i.e. Constant Contact, Mail Chimp and A Weber. We will go over ways to keep your customers engaged through blogging and running email campaigns.

Grow Your Business Online: Building a Website Using WordPress
Thursday, October 24th, 7:00pm
This talk will focus on the history of WordPress, usable plugins for the site, content management, the blog itself, blogging themes and methods, and installation and web hosting. The overall goal of the talk is to present strategies and tools for creating or enhancing a WordPress website for your business.

Grow Your Business Online: Using Facebook & Other Social Media Platforms
Thursday, November 21st, 7:00pm

In this class we will look in detail at Facebook and other social media platforms, and how they are powerful tools to grow your business online, through customer engagement and networking. Students are encouraged to follow along during class. You should come to class with a personal Facebook page set up – from there we will walk through setting up a business page. We will discuss Facebook posts, when to post, and how to generate engagement. We will go over running Facebook ads, and their effectiveness at targeting your ideal audience.

Instructor: Hilary Andersen
Hilary Andersen has been in business for over 20 years, running her own design and marketing business. Hilary has a BFA in Graphic Design, and specializes in print, web design and social media strategy and implementation. Her experience includes web design, branding and a large social media campaign for a PBS series from Ultimate Restorations, a large social media campaign for the UC Berkeley School of Information, and web design and social media for a leading Bay Area dermatologist. Hilary brings her design and branding skills in play with all of the work she does, to maintain a consistent and cohesive message throughout all mediums. Hilary loves working with her clients on the overall strategy and implementation of growing their business online, helping them with search engine optimization, blogging, list building, and growing a strong following on social media, all helping them to drive traffic to their websites.

Instructor: Kumar Desai
Kumar Desai’s well-rounded technical background includes many years in computer networking with a particular focus on internet technologies. Kumar has been a web programmer for 16 years and is proficient in many technical areas. Born and raised in London, Kumar came to the United States 18 years ago to continue his studies. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, the focus of study being computer and cognitive sciences. Although his career has been chiefly within technology he has also worked in publishing, television, financial investment, and marketing.
