Fire Fuel Reduction Project Scheduled In Scott Valley
Posted Date: 2/4/2013 6:00 AM

Fire and TamThe Mill Valley Fire Department, in partnership with Marin County Parks, has begun the Alto Bowl Fire Fuel Reduction Project.  This multi-year project is aimed at eliminating invasive french broom, pampas grass and acacia in the Alto Bowl Open Space Preserve.

The primary benefit of this project is the removal of highly flammable vegetation that poses a threat to Mill Valley homeowners.  The second benefit is restoration of the native plant species that predated the arrival of broom and other non-native vegetation.

Beginning Monday, February 4th, 2013, the Mill Valley Fire Department will be burning piles of cut vegetation above Midhill Drive in Scott Valley.  This operation will last several days and will produce a small amount of smoke in the area.  All work will be performed on designated permissible burn days as dictated by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact Mill Valley Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Barnes at 415-389-4139 or Elise Holland, Chief of Planning and Resources, Marin County Parks at 415-473-2820.
