The Mill Valley Department of Public Works will begin technical studies to develop an implementation plan for the Miller Avenue Streetscape. Over the next two months, crews will be surveying the street, taking soil samples, inspecting the sanitary sewer system, and testing the pavement’s strength. The results from these studies will help the team advance the streetscape’s design from the conceptual stage into a set of preliminary engineered documents.
The Department of Public Works will use these studies to evaluate construction-phasing alternatives to build the streetscape. In order to develop a phasing strategy, department staff will consider available funding as well as the potential impacts construction could produce within the community. This process will culminate in September with a presentation to City Council seeking comment and approval of the implementation plan. The Department estimates the first phase of construction will start in spring 2014.
Crews will perform evaluations for the technical studies on Miller Avenue from Monday to Friday. Their impact to traffic should be minimal. The Department is excited to begin work on one of the largest and most important public works projects in the City of Mill Valley.
