Holiday SafetyTips, Scam and Senior Information
Posted Date: 12/11/2013 1:30 PM

The Mill Valley Police Department wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

To ensure that you have a safe holiday experience, we offer safety tips for your home (lights, decorations, fireplace, tree), pets, food, toys and mental health.

Do you ever wonder if the charititable solicitation you received is legitimate?  Or, do you want to know how much of your donation goes to the cause - as opposed to the fundraising costs?  Nobody wants to give to a sham charity or a non-profit that misuses your contribution.  There are several sites to investigate your donations to charity.

If you're like most people, you don't get to see your elderly loved ones as often as you'd like.  The holidays offer an opportunity to visit with parents and grandparents.  Given that 1 in 10 older Americans are abused and neglected, the National Center on Elder Abuse wants everyone to know what they should be looking for when visiting elderly loved ones to ensure that they are aging with respect and dignity.

Scams are around all year, but seem to become more prominent during the holiday season.  Keep your guard up and consider the scam alert tip sheet offered by the Better Business Bureau.
