The City of Mill Valley is taking one of many steps to decrease home ignitability in our community. The 2017 Sonoma/ Napa fires have caused many communities, like ours, to review current programs and determine improvements we could make.
In the past, only new construction in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) was required by the Mill Valley Municipal Code (MVMC) to comply with modern ignition resistive construction. We will now be requiring all construction to comply with these guidelines.
For instance, when you replace windows on their home, the City is now requiring that the newly installed windows are compliant with WUI construction standards. These new requirements took effect on Wednesday, May 16.
You can check to see if your property is within the WUI Zone on our website by viewing the map or searching by parcel number. If you have any questions regarding these changes please contact the Mill Valley Building Department.
