Our condolences to all the victims and their families during the recent fatal structure fires in Philadelphia and New York City. On Sunday, January 9, 2022 hundreds of firefighters responded to a five-alarm blaze in the Bronx which killed at least 19 people and injured at least 30 people. It was reported that the incident begun with a faulty space heater which spread heavy smoke to the remainder of the 19-story building due to a door being left open...
Southern Marin Fire District & Mill Valley Fire Department would like to remind residents to please:
➡ Learn your building's emergency evacuation plan. Make a home escape plan & practice it. Know at least two ways out of every room, building, and road.
➡ Test your smoke alarms monthly. If you hear a beep, get on your feet and evacuate immediately. If you hear a chirp, you need to replace your batteries.
➡ Remember to close the door to your room or apartment as you leave. A closed door can keep smoke & fire contained in the room or apartment where the fire started. Dial 9-1-1.
